BYD Song MAX DM -Hybrid PHEV

1. Space: ★★

The space of Song MAX is undoubtedly outperformed by any of the above models. The Song MAX has a length of 4.7 meters, which is not short, but the interior space is not spacious. It should be that the battery takes up some space, but the interior space design is really poor, and the seat adjustment is also rough, especially the 6-seat version, which can't even be fully flat. This is not the performance aMPV should have. The adjustable angle of the middle row in both 6-seat and 7-seat versions is also very small, so you can't lie down or recline completely. When the 7-seat version is fully expanded, the trunk space is almost non-existent. BYD should humbly learn from Japanese MPVs in terms of space and seat design. To sum up, the rear two rows and overall space of Song MAX should be at the bottom among models of the same level. If you often need to travel with 6 people, it is recommended to buy the 7-seat version and fold down one seat to use as trunk space. According to my years of car usage standards, the overall space performance is just barely sufficient.

2. Power Performance: ★★★★☆

In terms of power and fuel consumption performance, based on my years of car evaluation standards, I give 95 points. In HEV and EV modes, the throttle response is fast, the brakes are sensitive and very smooth, and there are no obvious flaws in power. Overall, the power smoothness is very close to the perfect performance of a family MPV.

3. Driving Quality NVH: ★★★★

Benefiting from the smoothness and power performance of DMI, I give 80 points. The wind noise is still a bit obvious after accelerating, the sound insulation is average, and the standard tires are also ordinary, resulting in relatively large tire noise (you can replace them with quiet tires like Michelin or Continental later).

4. In-vehicle Smart Connectivity: ★★★☆

About 75 points. The open Android system has no software restrictions, which is worth praising. The instrument panel is not fully LCD, which makes it look less technological, but I personally can accept the combination of mechanical and LCD. One drawback is the lack of a head-up display. This is very important, has low cost, yet is not a standard feature; it should at least be available as an option.

5. Exterior Performance: ★★★★

I give 80 points for appearance. Although there is no stunning feature, the overall look is elegant and the proportions are coordinated. I plan to add a front lip or splitter later to make it more balanced.

Additional Complaints: There is no seat ventilation and heating in all trims. Such important configurations are actually missing, while less important functions like electric tailgate can be optional. In a car usage environment like Shenzhen, seat ventilation is very important, and in northern cities, seat heating is also very important. This must be seriously complained about!

New Car Initial Experience

The process from ordering to picking up the car was relatively smooth, but the 4S shop showed an attitude of being arrogant and indifferent, as if they don't care whether you buy or not. As a service industry, this should not be the case. The price was not reduced at all, and there were no gifts (although most gifts are junk anyway), and the insurance was slightly expensive. According to the new regulations, the license plate fee is free. I didn't care about these things just to pick up the car smoothly.

【Experience after using the car for a week】:
1. Strong power. There is a strong sense of pushing back when lightly stepping on the accelerator to reach 80-100km/h. At traffic lights, you can leave the fuel-powered cars behind with one kick. I have never had this experience with a fuel-powered car before.
2. Fuel-efficient. For such a large car, when driving with air conditioning on and low battery, the measured fuel consumption is currently 4.8L/100km.
3. Long pure electric range,标称105km. Sometimes when the battery is fully charged at the unit, I go home and watch videos in the car with the air conditioner on for an hour or two, and there is still plenty of power when I go out the next day. Usually, I charge it once every three days.
4. Most of the time driving in the urban area, using pure electric mode more. The engine occasionally starts when the battery is exhausted, and the start is smooth and almost imperceptible, which is much more comfortable than the old fuel-powered car.
5. The car height is 1.8m, and the space is high enough. Children can walk upright inside, and it has become another paradise for them. Adults don't have to bend too much when getting to the third row, which is highly praised by the family.
6. Rich configuration. It has automatic headlights, automatic high-low beam switching, and automatic light-on when it's dark, which is very convenient. There is also adaptive cruise control (ACC), but I haven't used it because I've been driving mostly in the urban area recently.
7. The infotainment screen is large and can be connected to the Internet, providing a good viewing experience. Every time I park, the children ask to play animations, and the front passenger seat has become their seat. The voice recognition is sensitive, which can control the air conditioner, windows, lights, navigation, etc., and is very practical when driving.
8. Supports external discharge, which is very convenient. When installing the carpet, I drove the car outside, and it could power the 1200-watt vacuum cleaner at home, which will be very convenient for cleaning in the future.

【Disadvantages】:
1. The raised roof design is ugly. After seeing the real car, the family all commented badly, saying it looks like a suitcase.
2. The speedometer pointer on the dashboard rotates counterclockwise, which feels very uncomfortable.
3. The speedometer scale is too dense and not easy to辨认. The speed range is large, and the actual speed has reached 100km/h when the pointer is halfway.
4. The voice cannot control the air volume of the rear air conditioner. It is very inconvenient when children need to reduce the air volume while sleeping in the back row during driving.
5. The middle row backrest cannot be放平, so lying flat is not possible.
6. The color of the ambient light cannot be adjusted or gradient, which is a bit disappointing for a top-equipped car in this aspect.
7. The trunk switch has no obvious标识提示 and is not easy to find.

【Space Performance】
Overall satisfied. The second-row independent seats are very comfortable, and the family is all satisfied. Especially the升舱顶, it is really comfortable and not oppressive at all. The only drawback is that the trunk is too small when fully occupied, only able to fit backpacks.
【Comfort】
Overall good. The seats are soft enough, and the shock absorption is okay. However, the third row has obvious bouncing feeling, and the body roll when turning is a bit noticeable. Limited by the rear suspension, it is understandable.
【Third-row Space】
The family members are not tall. The third row is quite comfortable for people under 1.7 meters. After all, there is independent air conditioning, cup holders, and the seats are soft enough.
【Most Dissatisfied】
1. The cup holder slot in the armrest box is a bit shallow. After placing a water cup, things cannot be taken out from the armrest box. It's all small bugs.
2. The trunk is too small when fully occupied, really not generally small.
