Review A
I paid the reservation deposit on January 9th after NIO DAY last year and got my car after waiting for 17 months. I originally planned to take a test drive in March. At first, the test - drive slots were fully booked due to high demand. Later, when it was available, the pandemic control measures were in place. I didn't go out for months, so there was no chance for a test drive. So, I basically made a blind reservation just after watching the press conference. As an owner of the ES6 Performance Edition, I'm now making an additional purchase of the ET7, and I'm deeply impressed by the improvements of the latter.
Let me start with the advantages:
1. The suspension quality of the ET7 has been greatly improved. On bumpy roads, the whole car feels very resilient and stable. It passes through smoothly without any unnecessary shaking, and the comfort level is quite high. Compared with the ES6, it's simply much better, almost a crushing advantage. (I think the classic test road is Zhangyang Road in Pudong, from Century Avenue to Luoshan Road.)
2. The sound - insulation effect of the ET7 is excellent. When watching a movie in the car at 50% volume, you can't hear the sound clearly outside the car, but you can feel strong vibrations when touching the door panel. For the ES6, at this volume, the sound could be clearly heard outside.
3. The comfort of the kinetic energy recovery has been significantly enhanced. When you release the accelerator pedal, even at the highest recovery level, there's no obvious dragging sensation. Previously, when the kinetic energy recovery power of the ES6 was 30 kilowatts, the dragging sensation was very obvious. In the ET7, there's hardly any feeling even at 40 kilowatts.
Now, let me talk about some mediocre aspects:
1. The 7.1.4 audio system is not as amazing as expected. It's just mediocre. Since I'm not sure if it's a problem with the sound source, the tuning, or the hardware itself, it's hard to say. Anyway, it's definitely not as miraculous as what some car reviewers said at the beginning.
2. The car - infotainment system is just average. Although it uses the 8155 chip, apart from being more fluent, there are still a few extended functions. Actually, I really hope there could be a video player that can read video files from USB devices, so I can play a Blu - ray movie with Dolby Atmos in the car occasionally. It would be much better than the content provided by iQiyi. Also, since it's said to be the second living room, at least give me the right to install things myself. Currently, after the initial pre - installation, there's almost no room for expansion.
3. The Nomi is rather dispensable. If it weren't for my kid's strong request, I'd probably choose the version without the head, just like I did with my ES6. Apart from a few regular expressions, there doesn't seem to be much else. And the sound of the motor inside is a bit loud. Paying nearly 5000 yuan for it is just for the novelty.
Review B
After a long wait, I finally got my hands on the NIO ET7. As of today, I've driven it for 2,181 kilometers. I drive quite aggressively, and the actual range is about 70% - 80% of the stated range. Let me briefly share my experience of driving the ET7.
Smart tech: The ET7's automatic power - closing doors and retractable door handles respond quickly when you touch the door, operating smoothly. This is a great example of the design concept of smart technology. The 4K dash cam and high - precision detection of the lidar also fully ensure the safety of your journey.
Atmosphere creation: The exclusive video with stereo surround sound during the test drive of the ET7 allowed me to have an immersive auditory experience inside the car. The lighting in the parking lot is rather dim. Paired with the customizable 256 - color ambient lighting, it creates a strong sense of atmosphere.
Comfortable interior space: The long wheelbase of the ET7 makes the overall interior space very spacious. Even friends with a large build can easily get in. The seats are made of Nappa leather, which is soft and comfortable. You can enjoy sitting in the car for a long time. With the built - in seat heating and massage functions, you can relax your whole body while driving.
Enhanced driving experience: The dynamic test drive also refreshed my understanding of NIO's driving experience. The passing ability of the chassis, the stability of the suspension, and the road feel have all been significantly improved. During the test drive, I experienced two driving modes, sport + and comfort, both of which provided excellent driving experiences. The steering wheel has a good grip, and the ET7 can turn nimbly.
NOMI Mate: The NOMI in this NIO ET7 is very cute. It has a human - like voice processing and is very responsive. In my opinion, NOMI is not just an AI but also a great partner for creating a pleasant driving life. You can avoid the potential danger of operating the screen while driving. Just say "Hi, Nomi" and it will help you with a series of operations.
Exterior and interior: The choice of exterior and interior depends on personal preference. Personally, I really like the overall minimalist and high - end interior design of the ET7. After the test drive, I'm more fond of the Alpine Gray of the test car. Another reason is that I'm a bit lazy. Dark - colored interiors are easier to clean. The heartbeat - style taillight design and the fastback design of the ET7 fit well with its overall design.
Review C
From the appearance, it can be found that the front face of this ET7 is very similar to NIO's family design language. Basically, there isn't a big difference just because it's a sedan and not an SUV. They both have split headlamps. The side lines of the body are very sleek and imposing. The body is large and wide, and it also uses hidden door handles combined with the design of power-closing doors, which is very high-end. However, there is one thing I'm not quite satisfied with, that is, the gap between the window at the C-pillar and the door panel is a bit wide.
The rear of the car adopts a rounded design similar to that of Porsche, combined with the through-type taillights, which looks very dynamic. When comparing it with the 5 Series, E-Class, and A6L, it won't be outshined at all. It's also a very imposing presence. The real drawback is the three "horns" on the top of the front of the car. Inside them are sensors, lidar, and cameras. It doesn't look very harmonious. However, there are also benefits. It's a bit safer to place them up there than in front of the car. If there's a slight collision at the front, repairs will be needed. The cost of repairing the lidar is very high. So, even if it sacrifices some aesthetics, it can improve the car's practicality to a certain extent. Moreover, if the cameras are placed up there,
its viewing angle (range) and the accuracy of distance measurement are a bit better than Tesla's. After turning on the ACC inside the car, you'll find that the viewing angle it covers is twice as large as Tesla's. When you get into the NIO ET7, compared with its exterior, its interior attracts me more. If the exterior is good-looking, then its interior can be considered amazing. It uses a three-tone design, a combination of gray, white, and wood grain panels, which really looks high-end.
Even if it can't match the feeling of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, at least there isn't much difference between it and the 5 Series or the Audi A6L, and it's even a bit better. The use of materials is very delicate. The wood grain panel is really the icing on the cake. It feels a bit like the bark of a birch tree. The center console screen doesn't follow Tesla's example of making a 16:9 rectangular screen. Instead, it has a more distinctive 4:3 ratio. And its UI interface and usage logic are different from Tesla's models.
It doesn't blindly imitate Tesla. The configuration is also very high. For example, all four seats have ventilation and heating functions, and all four seats are equipped with seat massage functions. Sitting here is really a great enjoyment, especially when you turn on the seat massage. Its cabin is really high-class and worthy of its positioning at 500,000 yuan. But does it have no flaws?
There are still some. That is the light-colored design. Although it gives you an amazing feeling, it gets dirty easily. For example, this car has traveled less than 4,000 kilometers, and the steering wheel already looks a bit dusty. As for the seats, if you like to wear jeans, it's easy to leave blue marks on them. In terms of space, the wheelbase directly exceeds 3 meters. There's no need to mention the legroom. It's very long and spacious. The seat cushions are also very soft, and the configuration is high. The drawback is that the seating position is a bit high. The high seating position makes the window waistline low, reducing the sense of privacy.
