Review A
Car usage experience
First, here's my personal conclusion: The G7 is suitable for pure - electric SUV users who want to try various new technologies like intelligent driving and mainly have family needs.
This is my first time driving a new - energy vehicle. After driving the G7, I feel that I can't go back to driving fuel - powered cars. I won't go into details about the common navigation and audio - video systems found in other new - energy vehicles. What I personally like the most is that its in - car system comes with a "Smart Scene" mode, similar to the shortcut commands on a mobile phone. It allows you to DIY and create your own unique in - car driving scenes. Just like when you buy a new mobile phone and can change the screensaver and ringtone, although everyone is driving a XPeng G7, after opening the door and getting in the car, you'll enter your own unique smart driving scene. For example, one of the smart scenes I've been using recently: After opening the door and sitting in the car, the in - car AI system reports the in - car information to you like Jarvis, the intelligent butler in Iron Man, and actively turns on the air - conditioner and music, full of style. Even if you don't know how to set it up, you can download various smart scenes uploaded by other XPeng owners in the in - car system, select the ones you like to use, and also modify them to settings that suit you better, so that you can discover new fun every time you drive.
I've driven quite a few SUVs before. Personally, the exterior of the G7 doesn't seem to have changed much, but once you get inside the car, the space is quite spacious. I'm only 172 cm tall, but I can clearly feel that there's plenty of space in the front and rear rows in all directions. When I took my parents out, they also said that the rear - row space is larger than that of my previous K5 and it's more comfortable to sit in. There's no problem even when the car is fully loaded with 5 adults. Moreover, all models of the G7 support seat ventilation and massage in both the front and rear rows, making it a pleasure for family members to travel by car. The trunk of the G7 is also quite large. A half - sized child can almost lie down in it. There's also a hidden space under the trunk, which can hold quite a lot of things. The only pity is that the frunk is a bit of a joke. It's only big enough to hold an umbrella. Among the SUVs of the same size I've driven, the in - car space and trunk space of the G7 are both among the best, so the G7 has a strong family - SUV attribute.
When I picked up the car, the in - car system showed that the battery level was about 97% and the mileage was 7 kilometers. In the first week after picking up the car, I mainly used it for commuting to and from work in the urban area and made a trip to the countryside in between. After a week, the WLTP - marked range was 375 kilometers with a battery level of 65%, and the average driving energy consumption was 12.5 kWh/100km, which is in line with the G7's claimed summer energy consumption of 13 kWh/100km. It's summer now, and every time I drive, I turn on the air - conditioner remotely in advance and keep it on throughout my commute. Although the G7 uses batteries from Zhongchuang Xin Aviation instead of the top - tier CATL or BYD batteries in people's minds, I feel that the G7 controls the battery level quite well, and the battery drains evenly. My XPeng car - owner friends also said that XPeng's range can reach about 90% of the claimed value, which is more reliable than ordinary new - energy vehicles, so I'm not worried about the battery range. Since I've only had the car for a short time, I haven't done a charging test yet. I'll make up a post about it next time if I have the chance. According to the 4S store, it takes about 6 - 8 hours to charge the battery from 10% to 100% using slow charging.
I drive quite gently, so I set the driving mode to the comfort mode. Plus, I mainly drive in the urban area, so there's hardly any aggressive driving. However, the G7 still has an obvious sense of acceleration and push. Whether it's changing lanes or overtaking, it's very easy. When starting at a traffic light, you don't have to hesitate like in a fuel - powered car whether to floor the accelerator or brake quickly. When passing over speed bumps and some complex road surfaces, even if the speed is about 60 km/h, the G7 allows you to feel the undulations of the road surface but without obvious bumps. Although I haven't driven on mountain roads or various complex terrains, during nearly 130 kilometers of driving in the urban area and suburbs in a week, it can perfectly pass over all kinds of speed bumps and small potholes, with full marks for comfort. With the AR - HUD system, you can directly see the speed limits of the current road section and road - surface information prompts like turning channels, so you can drive with ease even on unfamiliar roads.
III. Final summary
By now, someone must be asking: At the beginning, you said the G7 is suitable for users who like intelligent driving, but why have you hardly mentioned the intelligent driving experience in the whole text? The biggest embarrassment is that I chose the G7 Ultra version when I placed my order. I didn't expect that the Max version I test - drove at the 4S store had all the intelligent driving functions. During the test drive, I really had an in - depth experience of the AR - HUD system combined with the City NGP and VLM interaction functions. It was full of a sense of technology, and the intelligent driving level was definitely top - notch. However, due to issues with the Turing chip, my Ultra version currently can't use functions like City NGP and VLM interaction. I have to wait for the OTA update in September. This is the biggest pity. So, although I've driven this Ultra version for a week, currently I can only use basic functions like road maps and automatic parking. The AR - HUD system can also be used, but more useful intelligent driving functions need to be unlocked via OTA. I can only say that it's really frustrating to have such an amazing hardware configuration in the car but not be able to use it. I hope XPeng officials can push the OTA update as soon as possible so that I can experience the top - level intelligent driving ability powered by 2200 TOPS computing power as soon as possible.
The XPeng G7 isn't an SUV that will amaze you at first sight. Some people say it looks ugly, but I personally think its family - style X - shaped front face is quite distinctive. It also has a lot of hardware configurations and is currently the only "hexagonal warrior" with 2200 TOPS computing power.
Review B
[Most Satisfied] I really love the vehicle's exterior and interior. The ambient lighting has a great texture, the seats are very comfortable, and the ventilation and massage functions of the front and rear seats are excellent. It's just that the seats are a bit short. It would be better if they were longer. The vehicle's chassis is good, and the driving experience is very comfortable (compared with my previous 2016 top - spec RAV4). On flat roads, it's no different from a car with air suspension. There's a difference on bumpy roads, but it's acceptable. Personally, I think setting it to the sport mode would be better. It's too soft, and the passengers in the back row said they felt carsick. The wind noise is not obvious below 100 km/h. The 18 - inch wheels might be even quieter.
[Space Performance] It's excellent. The wheelbase is long enough. I'm a 175 - cm - tall overweight guy, and there's still plenty of space in the second row when I'm sitting in the normal driving position. There's a huge amount of headroom in the second row, and the trunk is very large, which is more than enough. The minor flaws are that there are a few storage spots in the front row, the magnetic tissue box is not conveniently located, and the lock on the glove box seems unnecessary.
[Range and Energy Consumption] The overall range is good. Take my most recent trip as an example: The navigation showed a 56 - km journey, and the range indicator showed a 76 - km drop in battery life. I didn't use the intelligent driving system, and the achievement rate was about 74%. There were about 40 km on the highway with speeds between 100 - 130 km/h. When the speed was around 105 km/h, the power consumption indicator showed 17 - 18, and when the speed was 130 km/h, it showed 22.5.
[Assisted Driving] In China, only XPeng and Hongmeng - based systems can be considered reliable for intelligent driving. In areas with light traffic in the city, on elevated roads, and on highways, you can use the intelligent driving system. The little blue light adds emotional value. Intelligent driving is very relaxing, and you won't feel tired when driving. However, since it's still at the L2 level, you can't completely let go. In many cases, you don't dare to let the intelligent driving system handle emergency situations.
[Charging Time] As shown in the picture, with a normal 120 - w charger, it takes more than thirty minutes to charge the battery from 30% to 100%.
Review C
It's no joke to say that this is the first time I've driven a car at this price point. The previous Mazda 3 Axela was bought with the money I saved little by little when I just started working. At that time, I loved it no matter how I looked at it. But as I've gotten older, my pursuits have really changed. Now I think more about my family and just want to get a car that can make the whole family comfortable. New energy vehicles are the major trend, and I also want to be trendy, so I simply gave up fuel-powered cars. When choosing a car, I compared quite a few models. The Xiaomi car seemed okay, but the waiting time was too long and I just couldn't afford to wait; Tesla is an American brand after all, and I've heard that it's not allowed to pass in some areas. I'm not into its appearance either, and those operating methods really confused me, so I just passed on it; Wenjie always claims to have great intelligent driving capabilities. I went for a real experience and didn't find it anything special. It really wasn't very appealing. After reading the reviews on Bitauto, its performance was just average, so I also gave it up in the end.
It wasn't until I met the XPeng G7 that I finally found the right feeling. After driving it, I realized that it's completely different from a fuel-powered car. It's like opening the door to a new world. The overall intelligent experience is off the charts. I was like a novice and it took me quite a while to get the hang of it.
The appearance really suits my taste. The body lines are very sleek. Unlike some cars that look bulky, I can't help but take a few extra looks every time I park it downstairs. The interior has a minimalist style with no redundant buttons. It looks really refreshing. It was just that I couldn't figure it out at first, but it became convenient once I got used to it.
The acceleration is really fast. When starting at a traffic light, just step on the accelerator a little and it zooms forward. The sense of push-back is quite strong. However, in terms of handling, the center of gravity of this car is still a bit high. Maybe because I'm used to driving sedans, I always feel it's not as stable as my previous Mazda when taking turns. I need to get used to it slowly.
It has quite a few advantages. The intelligent configuration is extremely considerate. The voice control responds quickly. When I say to turn on the air conditioner or adjust the volume, it does it right away; the battery life is also reliable. There's no problem driving several hundred kilometers on a single charge. But it also has some minor drawbacks. It would be better if the rear - seat space were a bit bigger. When I take relatives and friends occasionally, they'll feel a bit cramped after sitting for a long time; the sound insulation on the highway is a bit lacking, and you can hear some wind noise. Also, if the leather gets dirty, it needs to be cleaned in time, otherwise it will get stained and it'll be difficult to deal with later.
